Tuscaloosa Academy for Growth and Change (TAGC) is a 16-bed, state-owned residential program serving female youth ages 12–18 who are committed to the Alabama Department of Youth Services. Located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, TAGC provides a safe, structured, and gender-responsive environment designed to address the unique needs of young women requiring specialized treatment.
TAGC serves youth with mental health and behavioral challenges, including those impacted by trauma, abuse, neglect, substance use, and delinquency. Our trauma-informed, strengths-based approach helps young women build self-awareness, accountability, and healthy coping skills in a supportive and structured setting.
Each student receives an individualized treatment plan developed by a multidisciplinary team. Caring, professional staff provide counseling, case management, and evidence-based programming focused on emotional wellness, positive decision-making, skill development, and personal growth.
Youth attend a year-round, on-site school with opportunities to earn a high school diploma or GED. Family engagement, service learning, and structured recreational activities further support resilience and long-term success.
Through compassionate care and proven therapeutic practices, TAGC empowers young women with the tools to heal, grow, and build a stronger future.
